When I moved to NYC I had a similar issue opening a bank account. I was the only person in my newly opened office but they need to call the office to verify my employment. My solution, I told the lady I'll run across the street, you call, I'll pick up and verify my employment and then I'll run back to the bank and open my account.

Thankfully she just opened an account for me,

One thing I did to get around this (and it is sort of expensive) is I got a UPS Store box instead of a PO Box. Its usually much more than most PO Boxes - but you get a "suite" number instead of the voodoo "P.O. Box" number. Also then people like FedEx and UPS and the Post Office all deliver there. and credit card companies will let you list that address as a "primary" address.
