I wrote a longer post about this on Boing Boing but I’m excited to show off the sekrit project I’ve been working on for the past month or so. I designed the new Die Antwoord album which will be released next month. Super fun project with super creative and inspiring people. Woot!

Nice work! Always good to see more of Yolandi’s bod, and less of Waddy’s ugly mug! Plus, it’s just an interesting composition (lots going on in that pic!) despite the gratuitous “satanic” stuff . Something I see they’re utilizing more and more (especially in the new vid), and which usually sells well (see Alice Cooper, et al)
What I personally love about DA, is not any one particular element, but their spirit, their attitude, their ambition in using current tech and the interwebs, to blow it up. This, is exactly how you do it, and Waddy and YoL know it, and they caught a break by being featured on BB.
Waddy tries to drop his uber-ghetto BS as often as possible, but it’s the artist in him that I find most interesting. (Waddy, stop trying so hard, you’re going to burn us out on the Ninja character.) Last chat vid they offered, where he and YoLandi are in some kind of caravan/trailer sharing a spliff, he says “f*cking” literally every other word, and it gets tiring. I also loved how YoLandi babbled something in Afrikaans, gives Waddy an air kiss-kiss, and he didn’t like it. Messed up his tough and cool (act.)
Also interesting to see him pull in some genuine local rude boys, to add “authenticity.” Ah-oh, DA’s got a posse!
The BoingBoing crowd “gets it,” both the art and the (contrived) outrage. You ain’t foolin’ this crowd, and/but we still love it! I was at a RoR Meetup last night, and the new vid was a hot topic, among us tech geeks.
