Riding up ACH

A few months ago I bought Michael’s Husky 610. I’d been lusting over it since the day he bought it and since dude has 17 Ducati’s this never really fit in his collection anyway. Plus it’s black, which means it’s way better suited for me. Since then he’s been threatening to drag me up into Angeles Crest Highway with him and his Ducati posse and today he finally did. This was some seriously new shit for me because, while I was riding motorcycles before I drove a car, 99% of my motorcycling experience has been on flat ground, so twisty hills pretty much scared me to death. But in an awesome way.

I’ve actually never been up in those mountains anyway, so having my first trip be via motorcycle was pretty breathtaking. And honestly for years Michael has been telling me I needed to get a bike just to join him on these trips and I was always “yeah yeah, someday” but after today I really wish that someday had come a lot sooner. It was a blast, though I need to do it several more times before I don’t completely suck. I was really happy to have folks leading me along who didn’t mind waiting for my crazy slow self to keep up but I felt a little bad slowing them down. I know it’s not so much an issue of getting faster as it is getting better and more confident which translates into speed but I think I’ll get to that pretty quickly. Or I’ll eat their dust a lot, one or the other.

Once I improve a bit I’m looking forward to riding with some of the other guys, and I’m excited that Tara and Jason are both itching to join as well. It was really beautiful up there and just being able to carve around the canyons and not worry about stoplights or LA driver dickholes cutting me off was awesome. It was a pretty fantastic introduction and can’t wait to go back for more.
