WTF??! You can’t use the word ‘geek’ in the description of one. That’s almost redundant. And what is this stuff about kind of attractive? Geeks aren’t kinda attractive. They’re socially inept introverts who’d rather surf the Net than surf the waves. They’re geeks because they’d rather socialize on the IRC than at social functions.
Wil Wheaton isn’t just a geek.. He’s a nerd. He plays D&D. C’mon.. that isn’t geeky. It’s like saying one is uber 1337 cos one plays WoW. OMGWTFPWND.. not!

I’m a geek, and i’m highly offended by you calling me socially inept 🙁 I do, in fact, have more friends off the web than i have online, and i spend too much time with them 🙂
Also, technically, a geek is someone who has quite specialised knowledge in one topic (hence why you can have music geeks, art geeks, computer geeks etc), and the definition of a nerd is a geek with very little social skills. Get it right! 🙂
I have to say that society for geek advancement ad really annoyed me when I first saw it. People should stop trying to classify people. We are supposed to be unique individuals. You know, why don’t we just tag and barcode everyone? Then we could have an international committee that gives you a nice little label on say, your 18th birthday. That way you would know everything about anyone you meet. No more guessing. Governments could just do a quick search on people labelled as religious extremists or tax evaders – no mess no fuss.
I used to have hair and a beard just like that. I posted a video about how there was now gay porn video on my site on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxEpa_4hMlQ
Be what you are, why label others…..why strive to create labels and boxes?
I have a lot of respect for intelligent people, however socially divergent they may be.
Just to be a humorless, nit-picky feminist, I’ll point out that the fact that you chose the picture of a woman on a Mac to represent the quintessential ‘non-geek’ is sexist. Why can that woman not be busy learning computing codes or reading reviews of DC comics or writing her Master’s thesis? I suppose I am taking Joe’s more broad definition of geek in mind. If you want to be narrower about it, then my examples aren’t all relevant. But still, I ask, why is an attractive woman so very clearly ‘not-geek’ in your mind?
I am a Geek and very Proud of it. My wife I a very good looking woman and I am a pretty descent looking dude. I am in the Military and Work with in the Radio and TV Realm also. I enjoy the out doors, hanging with my friends both geek and non geeks, hell I have a few nerd friends even. I was a Jock and a Geek in School as I played sports (water polo Cross Country, Baseball, Wrestling, and soccer) and was in academic activities also (Chess, Knowledge Bowl, Sci Club and others)
The bearded guy may be a bit nerdy but he is a geek also as he is out in public to get photographed. the Chick on the other hand is hot but the description is accurate as she is just posing with the computer and not a clue how to even turn it on… I have to deal with the “I a little geeky” type girl all the time as they think they know what they are doing with the nerd and geek toys and all they do is F them up or get a real geek to work them for them.
I recently moved to Tokyo after 17 years in Los Angeles. I’ve run hackerspaces and blog networks, an art gallery, design firm and a record label. I’m one of the co-founders of Safecast, and currently act as Global Director. I’m an Associate Professor at Keio University, a Shuttleworth Fellow, an MIT researcher and sit on the board of CicLAvia.

Both the video and your picture are off, but the video is closer. Geeks aren’t the nerd stereotype.
